Newfoundland and Labrador has a new Lieutenant Governor.
During a ceremony filled with pomp and pageantry, Joan Marie Aylward was installed into the position earlier today at Confederation Building.
Aylward, a former Liberal Cabinet minister and Nurses Union president, describes the sense of pride and belonging to the province as “palpable”, noting that she is committed to continuing the work of her most recent predecessors—Judy Foote and Frank Fagan before her.
In particular, she mentions their “renewed openness, accessibility, and cultural welcoming” to Government House.
