SIRT-NL has laid an assault charge against an RCMP officer who was involved in an incident at Stephenville Airport on June 2 and caught on video.
Images taken by a local resident and shared on social media showed a man being removed from a Delta Airlines aircraft that had diverted to the airport due to an unruly passenger.
The video shows officers roughly pushing the man against the police vehicle several times before he is put through the open door. At one point the man’s foot could be seen high above the roof of the SUV.

SIRT-NL Director Mike King says a charge of assault has been laid against Constable Jeffrey Cormier.
SIRT-NL will not be making further comment now that the case is before the courts.
