Canada’s tiniest town has voted to resettle.
Tilt Cove on the Baie Verte Peninsula, once a bustling mining community, has dwindled to just four people, all of whom have voted in favour of resettlement.
The residents refused to do an interview on the topic, but one resident confirmed for VOCM News that the vote had taken place.
There is no indication at this time as to when the resettlement process will take place.
Tilt Cove was founded in 1813 and boasted a population of more than 1,500 at the turn of the last century thanks to the local copper mine. The population dwindled to just a few dozen after the mines closed in the 1920s.
The mine reopened in the late 50s, but shut down again by 1967.
Tilt Cove, recognized as Canada’s smallest town, was the focus of an Ant Man promotion complete with tiny poster.
