CODNL is marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities with a special event, however they will not be joining the government celebrations.
The Coalition of Persons with Disabilities would normally join the Minister Responsible for Disabilities for the proclamation, but will not this year due to “concerning regressive actions by the current government”.
They cite recent amendments to the Buildings Accessibility Act, which could result in the removal of legislated access and inclusion for many with disabilities.
They say the amendments stand in stark contrast to the recommendations of the government-appointed Buildings Accessibility Advisory Board and the Provincial Advisory Council for the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities.
CODNL will be holding its own event at the Capital Hotel tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
