Statistics Canada says the unemployment rate went up to 5.8 per cent nationally while the country added a modest 25 thousand jobs in November.
The agency’s labour force survey shows manufacturing and construction saw the largest gains in employment.
It shows most jobs were shed in wholesale and retail trade as well as finance, insurance, real estate, rental and leasing.
The rate in Newfoundland and Labrador was 10.0 per cent last month, the same as October. That’s the highest unemployment in Canada but is significantly lower than traditional jobless stats in the province.
