A Roman Catholic priest who has worked in eastern and central areas of Newfoundland has been charged with sexual assault.
Forty-nine-year-old Thomas Offong is facing a single count against one adult following an investigation by RCMP in Holyrood.
Police did not release any other information about the alleged victim or circumstances of the incident.
Offong has worked in the communities of Avondale, Colliers, Conception Harbour and Burin, but also the Grand Falls-Windsor area.
In 2017, he was embroiled in controversy over the use of Chase the Ace profits in Bay de Verde.
Offong is free on conditions with a court appearance set for February 6 in St. John’s.
VOCM News has requested comment from the Roman Catholic diocese on the current status of Rev. Offong with the Church.
