Work on the new Adult Mental Health and Addictions Centre in St. John’s is nearing completion.
The new facility has been under development for years and will ultimately replace the aging Waterford Hospital.
According to government all work is on time and on budget, with the work expected to be completed in late 2024. The goal is to begin moving patients into the new facility by spring 2025.
Some of the most recent work on the building includes the installation of drywall, ceilings, the building automation system and the HVAC system.
Glenda Webber of NL Health Services, who has worked in mental health and addictions for over three decades, says her heart is racing at the thought of the facility nearing completion. She says she can’t wait for the day that they can open the doors to the “beautiful and therapeutic space”
