A service celebrating a historic landmark going back to the 1840s is taking place this weekend.
St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church is celebrating 180 years in St. John’s.
In 1843, the land grant for “The Kirk” was sign by the congregation for Scottish immigrants moving to St. John’s. Fifty years later, the Scots had begun construction.
The Scottish Gothic designed church on Queens Road is a provincial historic landmark built from brick and limestone from the motherland and features stained glass by James Ballantine, responsible for the glass at Edinburgh Castle.
The 180 Anniversary service takes place December 3 at 11:00 a.m.
