Instances of HIV and AIDS in Newfoundland and Labrador have ballooned from pre-pandemic levels.
That’s according to Gerard Yetman, Executive Director of the AIDS committee of Newfoundland and Labrador, who says there has been a “dramatic increase” in cases of HIV/
AIDS over the last years.
In pre-pandemic years, the province was seeing one or two cases per year. So far in 2023, there have been between nine and 14 cases.
He says that could partially be due to a lack of testing being available during the pandemic. He says it is very important for people to avail of testing and know their status.
