The annual Downtown St. John’s Santa Claus Parade went off without a hitch this afternoon.
The weather was favourable for the nearly 50,000 people who hit the street to watch their favourite floats roll by, including the jolly man himself.
Gaylynne Gulliver with Downtown St. John’s says they were a bit worried about interest levels after they were forced to postpone last week due to the police operation on Brazil Street.
She says people often have other plans, especially during the busy holiday season. The only lost a couple of float entries and the majority of volunteers were able to return this weekend, which allowed them to make the parade possible.
Donations were also being collected for the Community Food Sharing Association, with Newfoundland Power matching all donations up to $15,000.
