Organizers with the St. John’s Santa Claus Parade are hoping the second time is a charm today.
The parade was postponed at the last minute last week due to a standoff between police and three people in a downtown home which was characterized as a weapons incident, just as thousands of people were making their way to the parade.
Given the unknown risk, and emphasis on safety first, the RNC asked organizers to postpone the parade until this week.
It’s set to begin at noon near the Hotel Newfoundland.
The weather also appears to be co-operating with no snow or rain in the forecast, light winds and a high of 2 degrees.
The three people at the centre of last week’s standoff, meanwhile, were released from custody the same day, and have yet to be charged with any offences.
