The province’s second city is all set to go with building a new wastewater treatment plant—it’s just waiting for other levels of government to jump on board.
Corner Brook tabled its 2024 budget yesterday, which actually reduced the residential mill rate by a quarter of a mill to offset higher property values. The water tax went up by $50 a year for residential and $60 for commercial.
Mayor Jim Parsons says they have set aside $14 million for the water treatment project, which the city estimates will cost $90 million.
Parsons says they need help from the federal and provincial governments to treat the waste going into the bay.
