A new study is taking a dive into self-managed home care in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Self-managed home care is where individuals receive money directly to arrange their own home care, whether that be paying someone close to them or an agency.
Associate Professor of Community Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba, Christine Kelly, says specifically in this province, they are looking at rural access to self-managed care, or the home support program in Newfoundland and Labrador.
She says in this province, they learned from the Senior’s Advocate that there is difficulty in getting the program to work in rural settings, with people who are eligible, but unable to find workers.
The study is asking anyone using the home support program, have family members using the program, or are working as a home support worker to email dfinfo@umanitoba.ca or call 431-294-3177.
