“Stay tuned”—that’s the message from a local home oil heating company as it adjusts to the movement away from oil furnaces in favour of electrical mini-splits and heat pumps.
General Manager of Harvey’s Home Heating, Chris Forward, says you don’t stay in business for 150 years without learning a thing or two about adapting to change.
The federal government recently introduced a three-year pause on implementation of the carbon tax on home heating oil, along with added incentives, to allow homeowners to make the change to electric.
Forward says the company continues to be focused on customer service, but how it adjusts to accelerated movement away from oil heat is something they’re currently working on.
“If you don’t have customers, you don’t have anything,” says Forward, but “how you react and how you move forward is key. You have to be there for the demanding and changing needs of the customer, so more to come on that,” he teases.
