SIRT-NL has ruled that there was no criminal conduct in a fatal police shooting at Regatta Plaza in June.
On June 12, SIRT-NL was notified by the RNC of an incident where an officer had shot and killed a man, later revealed to be 38-year-old Omar Mohammed.
In the decision, Director Michael King says a man visited the Employment Centre at Regatta Plaza that morning where staff contacted police due to an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
Two RNC officers responded to this call and attempted to arrest the man when an altercation broke out, causing an officer to fatally shoot the man.
King says SIRT-NL spoke to civilian witnesses, officers, responding paramedics while also reviewing CCTV footage and other communications.
