The chilling details of a fatal drunk-driving crash were read aloud in provincial court this afternoon.
Joshua Burt was driving 129 km/h in the wrong direction on Pitts Memorial Drive when his F-150 plowed head-on into Brad Kerrivan’s Chevy Terrain.
That’s according to the agreed statement of facts which details the events leading up to and after the tragedy just after midnight on April 3 of last year.
The 23-year-old Burt had been drinking downtown but got into a fight with his girlfriend before leaving alone, crashing through a gate where he had been parked before racing west on Pitts Memorial Drive.
He made it to the Ruth Avenue roundabout before turning around and heading back east on Pitts in the wrong lanes.
Kerrivan, meanwhile, had just pulled out of Southlands onto Pitts on his way to pick up his partner at the airport.

But he never got there—the catastrophic impact killing him instantly.
Burt escaped serious injury, with blood-alcohol tests showing he was several times over the legal limit.
He pleaded guilty in June, sparing Kerrivan’s friends and relatives the additional pain of a trial.
Still, no less than five victim impact statements have been submitted, chronicling the irreversible loss and toll of Burt’s actions.
The sentencing phase continues Friday at 2 p.m.
A date for Burt’s sentencing has not yet been set.
