A Mount Pearl woman got the shock of her life today—in a good way.

Elva Philpott bought a ticket in the VOCM Cares 50/50 Raffle Friday and it was the one drawn live on 590 VOCM this morning just after the 8:30 a.m. news. She comes away with just over $77,000.

Elva took the call from VOCM’s Greg Smith just seconds after her name was drawn on air.

Sonya Smith, Executive Director of VOCM Cares, was amazed at the outpouring of support from the community as the online activity ballooned on Saturday.

It was $40,000 Saturday morning but by the time the deadline struck, the pot had reached over $155,000.
