The number of people living at the tent encampment on the grounds of Colonial Building has dwindled to about one or two residents.
That’s according to John Abbott, the MHA responsible for the area where the encampment lies.
A couple of weeks ago, after the province formed a homelessness task force, Abbott told media they hoped to have everyone in adequate housing by Christmas Eve. With that date just days away, Abbott says they’ve already found options for a number of people, and are working in order to fully live up to their promise.
Abbott says they’re working with the one or two individuals residing at the tent encampment with various groups such as End Homelessness St. John’s, NLHC, and NL Health Services visiting daily to address their needs and help find them a housing placement.
