It’s going to be a tricky day or two on the roads for those traveling across the province ahead of the holidays.
Heavy snow is falling on the west coast and is expected to move eastwards over the evening and into tomorrow reaching the Avalon Peninsula by late afternoon or early evening tomorrow.
Environment Canada meteorologist David Neil says they’re still getting a bead on snowfall amounts, but the hardest hit areas right now include the west coast and Northern Peninsula.
He says as of early afternoon about 3 cm was reported to be down at Deer Lake airport, with snow covered roads throughout western Newfoundland.
Neil says the next 24 hours will see a mix of snow and ice pellets moving across the island—and those planning to travel over the highway should take heed.
He says poor conditions will linger through to Friday evening in many areas, making Saturday and beyond the best time for travel.
