The MHA for Exploits says a lack of snow clearing on the Botwood Airstrip is a cause for concern heading into the winter months.
Pleaman Forsey says air ambulances are sometimes unable to land after a snowfall because they haven’t been plowed.
He says often times the aircraft cannot land, meaning patients in need of emergency care then have to be taken to Gander to be airlifted. Forsey says that’s alarming as every second counts when it comes to an emergency.
Forsey understands that crews have to prioritize roadways, but says the airstrip cannot be completely ignored.
