Some messy weather is on the way for parts of the Avalon and Burin Peninsula tomorrow into the weekend.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement predicting a mix of snow and ice pellets. Conditions are expected to take a turn on Friday evening, starting with snow and ice pellets and then switching over to freezing rain.
Meteorologist with Environment Canada’s Gander Weather Office, David Neal says the Burin and Avalon Peninsulas can expect roughly 5 to 10 cm of snow overnight into Saturday.
Neal says that snowfall could be heavy at times on Friday evening, resulting in a messy mix of precipitation into Saturday.
He also notes that they’re tracking more wintry weather for much of the Island on Saturday night, but it’s still too early to forecast exact snowfall amounts.
Neal says it looks like there will be light snowfall across a good stretch of the island, with some areas seeing rain. Environment Canada is monitoring the system; however, there is still quite a bit of uncertainty.
