Two people from this province have been appointed to the Order of Canada.
Deantha Rae Edmunds and Francine Lemire are the latest Newfoundlanders and Labradorians inducted into the country’s highest order.
Edmunds is being inducted for her contributions as Canada’s first Inuk opera, her original compositions and her mentorship to young Indigenous artists.
Lemire, meanwhile, is being recognized both for winning two cross-country skiing Paralympic gold medals in 1988 and her contributions to family medicine in the province.
The women were inducted yesterday by Governor General Mary Simon.
