As the province rings in the New Year tonight, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is reminding people not to get behind the wheel if they are impaired.
RNC Constable James Caidgan says those partaking in celebrations should keep public safety top of mind, and plan ahead to get a safe ride home.
Cadigan says there are a lot of people on the road visiting family and friends this time of year, so it’s important for those enjoying social drinks or cannabis to recognize the risks of driving impaired to the whole community.
He says the RNC will be out in full force over the holidays.
There will be checkpoints and other traffic initiatives throughout the province to check for sobriety.
