The Memorial University Students Union says artificial intelligence can be a good tool if used right.
With the rise of AI, educational institutions are now tasked with determining how to appropriately use the technology, and what constitutes plagiarism.
As Director of Advocacy with MUNSU Mackenzie Broders explains, they already have a good idea of what the parameters are.
She says any amount of writing, whether that be a full paper or just one sentence, that is AI generated is considered plagiarism.
Broders says there are ways for students to make use of AI.
She says it can be used to check things like spelling and grammar, and it can be used as a research tool.
She likens it to Wikipedia—it should never be used as a source, but students can take the information that’s there and verify it through legitimate means.
