The Memorial University Students’ Union is advocating on behalf of two students from Gaza trying to reunite with their brothers.
Director of External Affairs John Harris says Marilyn and Miran Kasken arrived in the province last fall, but their brothers, Fahed and Talal, are in south Gaza currently and are trying to get out of the country.
Harris says the federal government will only be issuing 1,000 refugee visas to people from the war-torn area, and they are trying to put pressure on to get that limit increased.
He says that is not a lot in comparison to the hundreds of thousands of visas that were given to Ukrainian refugees, and he thinks it would only be fair to increase the limit.
Harris says they are working on getting a meeting with MP Seamus O’Regan.
