The first phase of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s expansion in western Newfoundland will happen on February 1.
As of that date, the RNC’s jurisdiction will expand into the communities of Massey Drive and Mount Moriah.
It’s part of an expansion announced by government last August. More communities will be phased into the RNC’s reach over the next year.
Government says there will be no changes to 911 with the move, and residents should call that number in case of emergency.
The RCMP will continue to manage files previously reported to them, and residents should continue to deal with them unless directly notified that their file has been transferred.
