The Executive Director of End Homelessness St. John’s says the intake criteria for the transitional housing beds at the Comfort Inn are still being worked out.
The first temporary residents of the facility are expected to move in in March.
Doug Pawson says they don’t want to rush the criteria.
He says they want to “get it right,” noting that they have learned what not to do from other jurisdictions across the country who have taken a similar approach .
He says they want to focus on people who have a more difficult time resolving their homelessness and who need the additional supports.
He says it won’t be a situation where people call the emergency shelter line and request to be placed in the hotel, he says they will have a much more intentional intake process.
