The new regional recreation complex in Corner Brook is in the final stages of construction.
Interior work is advancing, with finishing touches like painting and plastering underway, and the installation of essential equipment like the pool’s mechanics is in progress.
The community can look forward to the opening later in 2024.
Mayor Jim Parsons says Corner Brook is blessed with some of the best recreation facilities in Atlantic Canada but was lacking in aquatics following the closure of the Grenfell pool close to ten years ago.
The rec centre will have a therapeutic pool, a leisure pool, a waterslide and a lap pool.
He says a big feature of it is a large gymnasium, an atrium and a daycare with 32 spaces.
Parsons says it has been a challenging project with the cost of materials skyrocketing.
