The capital city has launched a new grant program to help support community-based organizations in developing or improving crime and violence prevention programs for children, young people and their families.
It’s part of a federal program announced in the fall. The City of St. John’s will receive more than $1.8 million dollars from the federal Building Safer Communities Fund.
Up to $540,000 is currently available with a maximum award of $150,000 per organization.
As a result, the city is inviting community based organizations that work with children and young people to apply for funding to expand existing programs or develop new initiatives that focus on a number of objectives.
That includes addressing risk factors, tackling the root causes of crime and violence, alleviating the impacts of crime and violence, and prevention.
The deadline for funding applications is Sunday, February 11. Successful applicants will have until March 21, 2025 to complete their projects.
