The Minister of Digital Government and Service NL is committing that the department will take the lead in addressing a gap in enforcement against landlords and tenants in violation of the Residential Tenancies Act.
It seems as though jurisdiction over who launches court proceedings against those in violation of the law has been left in limbo for years.
Minister Sarah Stoodley offered her thanks to advocate Sherwin Flight, and others who brought the discrepancy to government’s attention.
“We’ve taken a new look at this,” says Stoodley, who commits that her department “will be taking a lead, where warranted, on the process to go through in terms of resulting in a fine under section 51 of the Residential Tenancies Act.”
