RCMP in Whitbourne are investigating a series of recent break-ins targeting a number of Newfoundland Power properties and the Highway Depot in Whitbourne.
Since January 3, police have responded to three break-in reports at Newfoundland Power properties—a facility and substation in Whitbourne and a substation in Chapel Arm. Numerous items were stolen from the Whitbourne facility, including three reels of copper wire and four Milwaukee brand power drills.
Police believe the suspects were looking for copper wire at the two substations.
Meanwhile, sometime between January 9 and the morning of January 10, someone broke into the highway depot in Fair Haven. Tools and a gas can were taken, while gas was syphoned from the tanks of vehicles parked at the site.
The investigations continue. Anyone with information is asked to contact RCMP at 759-2600 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
