Terry Ryan is suiting up for the Newfoundland Growlers.
The former first round draft pick of the Montreal Canadiens, who today turns 47-years-old, will be making his professional hockey comeback with the Growlers this afternoon, as a flu spreads through the team.
Ryan played professional hockey in the NHL and AHL and other professional leagues for seven years in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He has played national level ball hockey since retiring.
Ryan, overwhelmed with emotion, says it will be the “best birthday ever” just to get a shift.
“I’ve got a 13-year-old daughter that hasn’t seen me play,” says Ryan. “That’s the overwhelming thing…that’s the number one thing I’m thinking about.”
He says some of the current Growlers are close friends, so it’s a privilege to play with them.
“They followed my career before they had skates on.” He says to go out there tonight, it will have come full-circle.
