The Royal St. John’s Regatta Is moving the event up by a week during the Canada Summer Games year in St. John’s in order to avoid a clash on the lake.
The committee did the same the last time Newfoundland and Labrador hosted the Games in 1977. The 1978 Regatta also played out on a different date to accommodate the Royal Visit of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.
President Noelle Thomas-Kennell says they’re happy to support the 2025 Canada Games and the many young athletes who will come together in metro during the first week in August.
The boats usually take to Quidi Vidi the first Wednesday in August, but in 2025 the gun will go off pondside on Wednesday, July 30. That will give the Canada Games unfettered access to Quidi Vidi for the rowing events.
