Enviro Watch NL is asking if the province of NL is making the wrong choice when it comes to fish farms.

Enviro Watch is hosting a public forum on Monday, January 22 offering what they call “a much-needed assessment of the true cost of sea-based salmon aquaculture”.

Leo White, a long-time critic of open-pen salmon farms and a member of Enviro Watch NL, says key factors are not being taken into account when determining the true cost of aquaculture. He says damage to the wildfish population and environmental fallout which may occur during mass die-offs are heavy influencers. Out-fall from the cages including fish waste, just drops to the ocean floor he says.

He says the material is highly-toxic.
