MUNSU is encouraged by the structure of the university’s Presidential Search Committee.
Memorial provided an update yesterday on the process surrounding the search for a new president after Vianne Timmons stepped down last year.
The terms of reference and membership structure of the committee was approved in December.
The committee will be comprised of current board chair Glenn Barnes, four other board members, four faculty, four students to be chosen form the various student unions, an academic administrator, a non-academic administrator, and a member from the public.
Memorial University Students’ Union President John Harris welcomes the participation of the students unions.
He believes the composition of the search committee is “fairer than it was going to be.” He’s pleased that the board decided to include participation from all four student unions. He calls it a “good balance…of students, faculty and other members.”
Dr. Neil Bose was appointed as interim president of Memorial until April 5 of 2025 or until the appointment of the next president, whichever comes first.
