The NL Folk Arts Society is expanding their Young Folk at the Hall program thanks to funding from the provincial government.
The program allows young musicians across the province the chance to learn from seasoned musicians through workshop-based lessons.
Musician Fergus O’Byrne, who has been involved in the program for over 20 years, says funding geared through government’s Year of the Arts campaign.
He says a number of work shops are planned in various communities including Bay Roberts, Twillingate, Stephenville, Marystown, and Lab City.
He says it’s a good opportunity for kids interested in music to mingle with others who share the same interests. Often it allows those who tend to be shy the chance to express their musical talents. O’Byrne encourages anyone under the age of 19 with an interest in folk music to apply.
