Newfoundland and Labrador gets a failing grade in a new report on mental health care.
Ratings of mental health and addiction services in Canada have declined since last year according to an annual report card from the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health.
Those surveyed gave NL an F when it comes to access and effectiveness of the services available. Public confidence and satisfaction with services earned a rating of D.
All provinces earned an overall failing score, with the exception of New Brunswick with a score of D.
Local psychologist Dr. Janine Hubbard says those numbers are troubling, but believes the province does a good job in providing options for urgent mental health care.
Hubbard says the access to same-day mental health crisis supports has gotten better over the past few years. She says it offers people a more immediate option, rather than calling crisis hotlines or sitting in the emergency room.
