The mother of former Premier Danny Williams has died at the age of 98.
Teresita Elizabeth Williams, affectionately known as Ter, passed away on Wednesday.
The matriarch of the Williams family is being remembered as an inspiring individual who embraced life with quiet confidence and enthusiasm.
As a young woman, she pursued dance at the New York School of Dance, and upon her return to St. John’s spent many years teaching, along with her sisters, known as the Galway girls, at Mercy Convent.
But she also played no small part in politics, working on campaigns at both the provincial and federal levels, culminating with the election of her eldest son, Danny, as premier from 2003 to 2010.
In 2014, and as a tribute to his mother, Williams named his massive Galway development after her.
A wake is set for Sunday at Caul’s Funeral Home in St. John’s, with the funeral mass 11 a.m. Monday at the Basilica.
The service will also be livestreamed here for those unable to attend.
