A Carbonear boy has raised some big money for local animal rescue efforts on his 13th birthday. Jacob Parsons took the occasion to urge people to pledge at least $5 for animal rescue in the province.
Jacob has raised more than $1,600 and counting. Julia, his mother, says he’s decided to share with local organizations.
She says he decided to donate $600 to other rescues, including one in Boyd’s Cove and another in Port aux Basques.
It isn’t just money, but on Thursday he received a donation of 120 bags of cat food. The rest of the money will sit on their vet account at the Baccalieu Trail Animal hospital “until we can held another animal in need.”
Julia Parsons has been involved in animal rescue for some time and says the need is always great.
“Every bag of cat food, every box of litter, anything, it all adds up,” says Parsons.
