The Marine Institute is celebrating 60 years in existence, and highlighting how they are more than just a “campus on the hill.”
Vice President of Memorial University responsible for the Institute, Dr Paul Brett, explains that the school started on Parade Street as an independent school.
It moved to its current location back in 1985 and joined with MUN in 1992.
Brett describes that as an “arranged union” that wasn’t necessarily wanted by either side.
He says there was a lot of fear for what it could mean for Marine Institute, but a lot has been accomplished in the last 30 years and they are attracting people at the masters and PhD levels.
