It’s going to be a tricky drive for eastern and southern parts of the island.

Environment Canada meteorologist David Neil says winds are starting to pick up and are making for blustery conditions.

Drivers this evening can expect heavy snow and poor visibility, making any travel difficult.

Neil says winter storm warnings remain in effect for the Avalon and Burin peninsulas with up to 25 cm of the white stuff when all is said and done.

Things will taper off overnight with the exception of a few light flurries before morning.

A number of businesses and facilities on the Avalon shut down early today. Metrobus and GoBus will be coming off the roads at 4:00 p.m.
