Two MUN researchers have been named by the Arthritis Society in their list of top 10 research advances for 2023.
The Faculty of Medicine’s Dr. Guangju Zhai and Dr. Christie Costello have been named to the list for their work in investigating why 20 per cent of arthritis patients still suffer joint pain after surgery.
They have found that a specialized blood test may help to predict who is likely to still have pain after surgery, and thus better patient care plans can be created.
According to MUN, Newfoundland and Labrador has the highest instance arthritis in Canada at 31 per cent.
