One person was taken to hospital as the result of a serious two-vehicle crash on Torbay Road that resulted in an extended closure of the road while emergency responders tended to the scene.

A spokesperson says three others escaped injury after a car and SUV collided over the lunch hour on Thursday afternoon.

The highway reopened several hours later.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.

Torbay Road remains closed between RCAF Road and the Pine Line while police attend to the scene of a serious collision that occurred early this afternoon near Cox Marsh Road.

The collision, involving a car and SUV, occurred shortly after 1:00 this afternoon.

Police closed both north and southbound lanes, leaving options in and out of Torbay limited.
