A 36-year-old man, who was already facing charges of assault and uttering threats, appeared before the court yesterday to answer to a charge of first-degree murder.
The body of the man’s former spouse was found at a vacant property in Outer Cove Tuesday morning just hours after she was last seen alive in the capital city’s east end.
Ibrahim Al Ahmad remains in hospital under police watch with what are believed to be self-inflicted injuries.
His first appearance happened over the phone with the assistance of a translator.
The Muslim Association says the tragedy is especially difficult given preparations for Ramadan, which starts on Monday. The local community is offering its prayers for the woman’s children who are now without a mother.
RNC Constable James Cadigan says investigators are looking for any possible video or images on the movements of a blue Hyundai Elantra which traveled from Middleton Street in the city’s east end to Liam Drive in Outer Cove sometime between 8:00 and 8:30 on Tuesday morning.
Cadigan says every piece of information is helpful to their ongoing investigation.
