A man charged with the first-degree murder of his ex-wife last week is scheduled to make his second court appearance today.
Thirty-six-year-old Ibrahim Al Ahmad made his first court appearance Thursday afternoon, albeit by telephone from hospital, where he’s under police watch.
He’s being treated for self-inflicted wounds following the discovery of the victim’s body in Outer Cove last Tuesday.
The accused is also facing charges of kidnapping and breaches of court orders. That’s in addition to a dozen previous charges, including death threats, assaults causing bodily harm, assaults with a weapon, and forcible confinement.
Police were called to an abandoned, run-down home on Liam Drive around 10 a.m. Tuesday where the victim’s body was discovered.
The cause of death is still under investigation by the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office.
RNC say the victim was last seen in the area of Middleton Street, in the capital city’s east end, between 8:00 and 8:30 Tuesday morning.
Police continue to seek dash cam or surveillance video from the Middleton Street area at the aforementioned times, as well as information on a blue, four-door Hyundai Elantra that travelled from Middleton Street to Liam Drive, where the woman’s body was found.
The woman’s murder is having a particularly profound impact on the local Muslim community who are marking the beginning of Ramadan today.
A spokesperson for the community says they are offering their prayers for the woman’s children who have lost their mother.
