A vacancy on the St. John’s city council will be filled tonight.
Today is by-election day in Ward 4.
Four people have offered themselves to fill the vacancy left when Ian Froude stepped down in December. Tom Davis, Nicholas Hillier, Myles Russell and Greg Smith’s names are all on the ballot.
The capital city has a vote-by-mail system and you must be registered to vote in order to cast your ballot.
Those who missed the mail-in deadline can drop their voting kits off in the green box outside St. John’s city hall, with two satellite drop-off centres set up at the Kenmount Terrace Community Centre and the Holiday Inn on Portugal Cove Road.
Ballots can be dropped off between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Voters who intend to register to vote at satellite drop-off centre must have acceptable identification available.
Residents of Ward 4 that did not receive a kit should check that they are on the voters list. To determine if you are on the list and/or to register if you are not, visit the Voter Registration Portal on the city’s website.
