A property owner on Duffett’s Road off the Trans Canada Highway on the outer edge of St. John’s is facing a serious situation due to flooding and runoff from rain and snowmelt.
Chris McDonald’s family has a hobby farm and a very sick horse and is waiting on a vet, but he’s concerned that help won’t come because of the amount of flooding they’ve encountered.
He says the situation they’re facing has been a problem for the last three years and the city is well aware, but they aren’t getting any satisfaction from city officials.
He says the flooding has only gotten worse thanks to development in the area.
He says previously, the trees and ground would soak up a lot of excess water, but with more roads, parking lots and development, the water has no where to go.
McDonald says adding to the stress is the fact that his sister is pregnant and she’s basically trapped in the house.
