Members of the Muslim Association of Newfoundland and Labrador are rallying around five young children left without a mother following a shocking homicide in Outer Cove last week and they’re looking for the support of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.
The young mother was laid to rest yesterday.
A Launch Good fundraising campaign has been started to raise money to help the five children—three boys and two girls—between the ages of 6 and 13.
A local Syrian family has taken the children in, but the added financial burden is significant.
MANAL President Dr. Syed Pirzada says he remembers well the support, love and protection the local Muslim community felt following the attacks in Quebec, and he’s sure the community at large will help the children as they navigate their lives without their mother.

Dr. Pirzada tells VOCM News the mother “wanted her children to be educated, because you see not everybody had the opportunity to have a higher education.”
A link to the fundraising page will be added to the MANAL website by the end of the day.
