Canada’s finest in music are being celebrated tonight at the Juno Awards industry gala in Halifax.
More than 40 awards, including top honors for artist, single, and pop album of the year, will be announced.
Newfoundland and Labrador will be cheering on three local nominees.
The Swinging Belles are up for Children’s Album of the Year for ‘Welcome to the Flea Circus,’ while Bekah Simms of Mount Pearl has been nominated as part of the Cryptid Ensemble for Classical Album of the Year (large ensemble).
Meanwhile, St. John’s teacher Sarah Comerford of Macdonald Drive Junior High has been nominated for the MusiCounts Teacher of the Year award.
Tonight’s gala sets the stage for Sunday’s main event, hosted by Nelly Furtado, which will feature the major awards for fan choice and album of the year.
