Towns and cities across the country are hoping for an increase in federal infrastructure funding in the spring budget.
St. John’s Deputy Mayor and member of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, Sheilagh O’Leary says municipalities need to start moving on commitments made to increase housing, but they also need the infrastructure in place to do that.
She says estimates across the country show that each new housing unit represents approximately $107,000 in infrastructure. “You can’t have one without the other.”
O’Leary says the FCM wants funding under the Canada Community Building Fund—formerly the gas tax fund—to be increased in the upcoming federal budget.
